Concept Statement

The design for Atom explores an American era that consciously and subconsciously idolized and adored forward-thinking progress in the form of fast paced, streamlined advancements of pre-Modernism. It was an era that became synonymous with technology, velocity, mass production, and exploration. The futurists of that time captured the paradigm by analyzing and breaking down our way of thinking into a style known as Googie. Googie began in California, and was primarily characterized by the boldness and movement of its fast paced design that spoke of the American way.

The interior of Atom showcases a contrast of what should had been, and what has become since the days of Googie. This contrast demonstrates the theory that moving forward relies on technology, and that technology influences Architectural forms. Atom will recapture the ideology of pre-Modernism, and compares it with contemporary futurists that nowadays implement and impact daily life with Architectural advancements.

Finally, the aesthetics of the place studies that various shapes that had meaning during the Googie period. It incorporates style that was influenced by the Atomic Age, the Space Age, as well as the epitome of the visionary, futuristic utopia of the 20th Century: The Jetsons.
